Heat rolls are designed as double-shell structure, with pre-heated (or pre-cooled) thermal transfer fluids flowing between the two shells. The fluid may be oil-based or water mostly. In many cases, heat transfer rollers & chill rollers are chrome plated and polished to a very low Ra value even mirror finish.
